Race 5 Forsyths Triathlon Series 2012
Race 5 was held in Armidale on Sunday the 10th February, 2013.
A great day was had by all when the Armidale Triathlon club hosted the Sportspower Workplace Challenge and race 5 of the Forsyth’s 2012-13 series.
The Sportspower Workplace Challenge is a short course triathlon for any business to enter. All funds raised from this event go to Can assist and the club is very proud that they were able to donate $780 this year. Thirteen teams entered this year.
The winner of the event was the NAB 3 team consisting of Angus Warden, Aaron O’Grady and Cal Mackerras who just beat home the Urandangie team of Bill Perrottet and Toby Brunckhorst.
Third place was last year’s winner, Roberts & Morrow.
In the Long Course, Brett Newton from Inverell blitzed the field with an outstanding time of 52.09 which is one of the fastest times recorded for this event in Armidale. He led out of the pool, extended his lead in the bike and no one made any ground on him in the run – An excellent overall performance.
Michael Hoult was second whilst youngsters Greg Manttan and Hayden Freeman were not far behind.
Emma Garraway continued her improvement with an impressive 1.04.54 to be the first lady home.
The H’s team of David and Michal Harris took out the team race with Three shades of Grey and Urandangie making up the minor placings.
In the Short Course, Peter Harris, in his first race of the season, won the race with consistent performer Paul Billings being only 30 seconds behind. Karlee McMillan was the first female followed by Edwina Croft and Jacky Weston.
The hotly contested short course team’s race was taken out by Team Elvis, made up of the flying Scotsman Robbie Blair and Luke Finnegan. They beat the very young Dynamic Trio followed by St. Marks.
Callum Godwin continued his dominance of the Junior’s race with Lachie Fittler & Sam King only a few minutes away. In her second race, Nyah Gording showed improvement to be the first girl home. The best dressed triathletes on the day, the Mighty Chicks were the first junior team home.
It was a massive day for the club with twenty-seven teams and eighty one individual competitors having a crack at a triathlon. In particular, the kid’s race attracted thirty one racers. The line up of kids bikes on the Wakefield Ground at TAS went forever.
The final race of the Forsyth’s series will be held on Sunday March 3rd which will be followed by a presentation lunch at the Armidale Bowling Club. We look forward to seeing another great turnout for the races and the presentation.
