Race 2 Forsyths Triathlon Series 2012

One of the biggest days on the Armidale Triathlon calendar was held on Sunday with the Hutchison & Harlow School’s Challenge being held in conjunction with Race 2 of the Forsyths Triathlon series.

Results for the School’s Challenge are still being collated but I can tell you that a massive 48 Primary and Secondary schools entered the event. A big thankyou goes to Lea McMillan who runs this hugely successful event.

In the Forsyth’s series races, competitors were greeted with good conditions for Triathlon racing. On top of the talent on display in the School’s events, we are seeing plenty of tremendous efforts from our Junior triathletes.

No matter what race they are in, they are performing really well. For example, Jack Parker, who is only 14 years old, has been doing so well competing in the long course.

In the short course, Freya Weston was the fastest individual ladies time. Joe Makeham, Ben Sullivan and Matt Haydon are all competing with the best adult competitors.

The actual Juniors race was won by Callum Godwin who finished the course in a sub 19 minute time followed in by Lachie Fittler and last race’s winner Kieran Sullivan.

As we have become accustomed to, there was a great roll up for the kids race with 15 of them having a go.

As far as the older racers went, Pat McMillan won the Long Course after getting out of the pool at the same time as Michael Hoult. McMillan then managed to pull away during the bike and run legs to win by approx. 2 minutes from Hoult.

Third place getter was Glen Mobbs who, with Pat McMillan, was recovering from the half ironman at Port MacQuarie last Sunday.

Emma Garraway was the first female home with a handy time of 1.05.42.

In the short course, Peter Harris managed to edge out Joe Makeham by a mere 5 seconds. Freya Weston came in only 20 seconds away with a time of 34.27.

The Sportspower team returned to the top with a powerful display clocking 33.16. The team consisted of Karlee McMillan in the swim, Paul Schmude on the bike and newcomer Edwina Croft sprinting home in the run.

Race 3 of the Forsyth’s Armidale Triathlon series will be held on Sunday December 2nd.
